“The Awakening of Desires”
Your story is very strong through body language. You film it raw, without make-up, naturally. Why this choice?
It was important for me to show women in their true nudity and not according to a polished image for a magazine ad. I wanted to show the different ways in which women experience their sexuality. We can let off steam like Laura; we can rediscover it like Muriel's mother. But I wanted us to see the scars of time and to be touched by that.I film Laura's mother, 70 years old, in her nudity, and she is beautiful. A 70-year-old body has the marks of time but can still have its pride. Advertising promotes youth, beauty, perfection. It establishes that a woman after 40 is finished in terms of love! Wrong! We put up so many barriers! Emotions have no age! I would like to make a film about a 50-year-old woman and break down all the barriers! I already realized this on this shoot when I fought with my producers to make the character of Martha exist as she is.” (Le Soir)
